After moving from Shropshire to London, working for a few years in an office environment but a frustrated creative; I discovered and learnt the art of decoupage and water gilding.
I set up Rebecca Decorative Designs 16 years ago working on folding screens, planters, waste paper bins and other interior accessories. I found my niche in glass decoupage blending beauty and functionality bringing decoupage into the 21st century creating art for everyday use in the home.
Drawing its name from the French ‘decouper’ which means ‘to cut, decoupage is an old craft which was traditionally used on furniture. Paper images were cut out, pasted onto furniture and repeatedly lacquered until the images appeared to sink into the wood, looking as though they had been hand-painted. I have taken this technique using it under glass, producing exquisite tablemats, serving mats, coasters and centre pieces that will protect your dining table, side tables or worktops and enhance any room.
All my work is handcrafted in a studio/showroom in the village of Ditchling, East Sussex amongst other makers and artists which makes for a wonderfully creative atmosphere.
I pride myself in the quality of my products, each piece is individually made with an array of designs and colours to choose from. Commissions are welcomed, I’m happy to receive your photos, drawings, fabrics, paint, wallpaper and family crests; we can work together to create one off pieces.
